It is one of the most exciting times knowing that you are pregnant and for many there is a desire to stay as fit and well during pregnancy but often you are unsure what is best for your baby and you. From my own personal experience Yoga, Qigong and Tai Chi are ideal practices whilst you are pregnant and post pregnancy. I offer yoga for pregnancy and post natal yoga sessions.

yoga for pregnancy

The sessions are similar to regular sessions but with an awareness and emphasis on the stages of pregnancy. If you have not practised Yoga, Qigong or Tai Chi prior to pregnancy then it is advisable to wait until you are 12-14 weeks pregnant. However, if you were practising prior to becoming pregnant then it is usually safe to continue your practice.

It is important that you balance exercise with rest  Bby regularly practising Yoga, Qigong or Tai Chi you will be able to balance the physical demands more readily and with greater ease as well as any changes in emotional or mental states. This feeling of confidence and balance can encourage a state of harmony which can enhance the mother-baby bond. This increased confidence in your abilities will help your baby feel more secure and content.

For some the experience of being pregnant is a continuation of the healthy lifestyle prior to being pregnant, for others there may specific conditions to deal with such as swollen joints, high blood pressure, sleep disturbances, public symphysis dysfunction, heart burn, morning sickness and sciatica. These symptoms can often be significantly reduced by gentle exercise, rest, relaxation and meditation.

post natal yoga

You want to get back into shape after having your baby but want to exercise sensibly and safely. Once you have been signed off as fit & well by your midwife or your GP then come along to the 6 week Yoga for Post Natal Pregnancy at the Clock Tower Studio. Usually this is after 6 weeks but if you have had a Caesarean then 8-10 weeks after the birth of your baby.

It is not just a matter of starting back with your training where you left off prior to being pregnant. Remember major changes have occurred in the structural support of your body, particularly if you are breast feeding. This Post Natal Pregnancy Yoga course is focussed on your journey back to pre-pregnancy body with particular consideration for weaknesses in lower back, abdomen & pelvic areas. Also you may need to deal with lower back pain and postural changes.

The progamme consists of three stages:

Nurture: working with healing breath, restorative poses & Yoga Nidra
Stabilise: yoga poses working on pelvic floor and abdominal work
Restore vitality: more challenging poses including twists
The last 5-10 minutes being devoted to relaxation techniques

Marjorie's ante-natal yoga sessions are always enjoyable, educational and thoroughly relaxing. She is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of yoga practice, particularly while being pregnant, and I feel rest-assured that I'm in good hands. I would recommend this class to any mums to be.
